The cosmetic surgeon that you choose to perform a cosmetic surgery can never guaranty a determined result and the professional that does would be lying. The patient agrees to be operated, taken care of by a cosmetic surgeon that will make everything possible according to his knowledge, experience and using the most modern techniques and preparation, so that the surgery (s) is (are) performed with success, none the less not because of that you can expect a guaranty. The cosmetic surgery in any patient has multiple variables, not quantifiable and this can affect the final result. An example of this is the scaring that is not performed within the standards that are dictated by the studies and that will depend in the genetic of some or several of the patients. The experience of the cosmetic surgeon will be determinant for obtaining the result you wish for, put it must always be considered the possible presence of problems. This makes the medic-patients contract to be of intentions and not of purposes or guaranteed results. The patient must understand and assume this reality before summiting to any cosmetic procedure either invasive or not invasive.
Statistically 1 to 2 % of the patients of cosmetic surgery in a prestigious hospital or clinic will have an unsatisfactory result.
Unsatisfactory results vs. complications
In the cosmetic surgery practice, the patients that present an unconformity confuse the result with a ¨complication¨, when the unsatisfactory results are not a complication but what its name indicates. If the patient is not satisfied with the result, or is not what he expected is called unconformity. An example of an unconformity result are keloid scars and not too aesthetic scars that depend of each patient and their genetic. For this last reason is fundamental discuss with the cosmetic surgeon before the cosmetic procedure.
Cost for re-touch (re-surgery)
For some patients the results obtain immediately after the cosmetic surgery are not the ones expected. To determine if a cosmetic surgery procedure doesn’t fulfill the expectations of a patient and thing in a re-touch, you must wait an approximate of 3 to 6 months, time that will allow to visualize the final results of the cosmetic surgery. This time as we previously comment, are standard times, none the less this will depend of each patient, and post op cares, time and scaring, among others.
In the eyes of a patient, a cosmetic surgery that doesn’t reach their expectations or wished results must have a re-touch and its responsibility of the cosmetic surgeon to redo the operation to make a small correction or modify to perfect the result; none the less in most of the unsatisfactory cases by part of the patient is due to non-real expectations that he or she had about how they would look or by not discussing your expectations with your surgeon, looking at real results of real people I your age range, etc.
The cost of hospitalization, inputs, OR, etc. Will have to be assumed by the patient as like the fee for the cosmetic surgeon and his medical staff to perform a new cosmetic surgery.
